Abstract

Mineral Trioxide Aggregate(MTA) was developed in 1993, has been recommended for various endodontic treatments due to the sealing ability, biocompatibility, reliable physical and chemical properties. Numerous studies have been published about various aspect of this material. This paper was to review the composition, mechanical properties of MTAs in endodontic treatments. MTA materials are derived from a Portland cement parent compound and have been demonstrated to be biocompatible, with its ability to form hydroxyapatite when exposed to water, and these materials are currently being used for many endodontic and restorative remedies such as vital pulp therapy, apexification, repair of perforated area, and root-end fill. These materials are similarly composed of tricalcium silicate and dicalcium silicate crystalline structures, and bismuth. On the basis of information, MTA is currently the material of choice in some clinical condition of dental treatment. More studies are supposed to be done to follow and confirm entities.
